Artist: P. Ramlee & Saloma
Title: Malam Ku Bermimpi
Translation: My Night Dream
Seniman Agung Tan Sri Datuk Amar Teuku Zakaria bin Teuku Nyak Putih, otherwise known as P. Ramlee, was a pretty interesting character. He was famous in Malaysia for acting, singing, producing, and composing. He was married to Saloma, the lady he is singing with here (she was his third wife), and died unexpectedly from a heart attack in 1973 aged only 44. At that time he wasn’t really considered ‘cool’, but has since been honoured in Malaysia for his contributions to music and films.
Saloma was also famous for acting as well as singing, and apparently was known as the ‘Marilyn Monroe of Asia’. She was well regarded as a singer, and in 1978, she was given an award as Biduanita Negara (National Songbird) by the Malaysian government. She married P. Ramlee in 1961, but after his death in 1973 she was so distraught that it took a great toll on her health. She died of liver failure in 1983.
