Apologies for the lateness of today’s post – it has been a busy day.
I have just been to see ‘If….’, the Lindsay Anderson film starring Malcolm McDowell, as part of this year’s Flatpack Festival. It was great to see this film again (without my usual ‘falling asleep halfway through’ routine that seems to accompany most films I watch after about 8pm), and especially good to see the Q&A afterwards with Chris Menges, who was the cameraman on the film (that man has lead a fascinating life!). An allegorical film about tradition, rules, the pretty hideous nature of the English public school, and the sense of rebellion and revolution that stirs in a small group of students. If you haven’t seen it, do!
Malcolm McDowell’s character, Mick Travis, plays a vinyl record in the film, and it is this song which I have chosen for today’s track. In fact, it is a recurring song within the film. The video below has some more information about the amazing choir who sang this song. It is absolutely beautiful. Just listen.
